Chapter roles & what each involves
Every board member started with a first step. Here are the volunteer, leadership and board roles that keep the chapter running — open any one to read its functions and responsibilities. Click I'm interested and we'll sign you in to check what you qualify for.
What a role asks of you
Show up to half of what the chapter holds
Board and leadership roles carry one hard requirement, and it's the same one for everybody. The chapter year runs July to June, and both bars are measured across it.
50%
of chapter events
Monthly meetings, the summit, in-person or virtual — they all count the same.
50%
of board meetings
Applies once you hold a seat. Board meetings are on the calendar a year ahead.
Why it exists
A chapter runs on people being in the room. The bylaws set half as the floor so that a seat always belongs to someone actually doing the work — and so nobody has to have the awkward conversation about what “involved enough” means.
It applies to advancement too
Moving from volunteer to a leadership role, or into an officer seat, is assessed against the same two numbers. Falling below the floor is grounds for disqualification from a seat you already hold, so it's worth knowing before you put your name forward rather than after.
You can see exactly where you stand
Your attendance is counted for you — nothing to submit, nothing to claim. Sign in and your journey page shows what the chapter held, what you attended and how that lands against both bars, updated as events happen.
Not this year? That's genuinely fine. Committees and short taskforces carry no attendance floor at all, and they're how most of the people on this page started. Volunteer now, stand for a seat when the year suits you.
